Room to Room Audio with LAN
Mr Grant Beswick from Essex used Multijack UK faceplates and Modules to Retrofit Room-to-Room Audio around his house.
When my house was built in 2000 I had the builders install CAT-5 cabling in all of the rooms. The cabling all terminates in my Study where I have a small patch panel. I have used 4 of the 8 Cat-5 wires for my LAN and have used 2 of the spare 4 in some of the rooms for my telephone system. This means I can patch the telephone and LAN signals to any room via the patch panel.
I recently installed a server for my music in my lounge and wanted to "pipe" the "pre-amp" signal through to two other rooms downstairs. To run new cables would have involved some serious damage to walls so I considered what I had available in my CAT-5 cables.
In one of the two rooms I had a telephone connected, but I was prepared to move that handset to free up 4 wires in the CAT-5 cable in each room.
I replaced the existing Lan/Telephone faceplates with a Konexia Multijack K-WSQ-01 Quad Module Faceplate populated with:-
1 x K-GFE-01 White CAT-5e Module 1 x K-RCX-01 White Punchdown Phono Connector 1 x K-RCX-01 Red Punchdown Phono Connector 1 x K-BLA-01 Blanking Plate
I can now play all of my music from my server through the stereo systems in all 3 rooms.
